Cardinale calls for restoration of teacher aides
Cardinale submitted the following statement to Ballotpedia:[4]
“ | 'If elected to the Board of Education I will aggressively pursue for the restoration of all Educational Assistants recently cut from the budget,' stated Cameron J. Cardinale, candidate for the Hamilton Township Board of Education. 'These individuals directly support the safety and academic performance of our students. These employees play a critical and vital role in the education process. Society is also seeing an increase in bullying and these Aides provide protection for our young and vulnerable students', said Cardinale.
It appears that virtually all the cuts recommended by the Administration and approved by the Board hurt the students. Cardinale also cites the elimination of Consumer Science in the Middle Schools (see Times article dated April 29, 2017 – Hamilton schools budget cuts trim aide positions next year). 'The education system must graduate students who are productive citizens and Consumer Science helps students become independent and able to care for themselves,' said Cardinale. 'This is a $200M dollar budget that is resting on the backs of the students and the lower paid staff', said Cardinale who is attending Rutgers University as a Political Science major. According to the New Jersey Department of Education, Hamilton Township was paying $796 per student in Total Administrative costs in 2011-12. Five years later the cost has soared to $1,525. 'This is a 116% increase”, said Cardinale. So, if you ask me where to find the money, I would direct administration to look at all the administrative budget lines. They can certainly find it there. Most top administrators in Hamilton make close to or over $150,000 annually, 'We need to spread the pain a little more equitably, said Cardinale.[5] |

Campaign website statement
Cardinale's 2017 campaign website highlighted the following themes:
“ | I have chosen to run for a seat on the Hamilton Township Board of Education because I believe that it is time for a change. For too long our Board has failed the fight to get our fair share of funding back from the State. We need someone on the Board that will lobby the State hard for the money that our 24 schools need and deserve. I have been through the district more recently than any member of the current Board, which means that I have seen and experienced the problems that our schools face. I know what needs to be fixed, and I am prepared to do what I need to do to fix them.[5] | ” |
