Elections
2014
The August 26, 2014, general election in Santa Rosa County featured three seats up for election. Diane L. Scott defeated a challenge from Sandra Nicely in District 1. Carol Boston, Debbie Gunnoe, Fuchsia Ann Spann and Jim R. Taylor were running to replace Diane Coleman, who did not file for re-election in District 3. Taylor and Boston advanced to the runoff election. Scott Thomas Peden won re-election without opposition in District 5.
The general election determined if candidates for each seat could garner a majority of the vote total. Because no candidate received 50 percent plus one of the general election votes in District 3, the top two vote recipients advanced to the runoff election on November 4, 2014.

I am Carol Boston, running for School Board-District 3. I believe that quality education is vital to our country’s competitive future. I applaud the success Santa Rosa County Schools have achieved to date, but know we can challenge our students, teachers and administrators to do even better. My mother told me, “Actions speak louder than words.” My years of teaching subjects from Emergent Reading to Advanced Calculus in Santa Rosa’s elementary, middle and high school classrooms, along with weekly teacher and administrator interactions offers me unique insight on challenges within our school system. Please consider that experience in combination with my decade of serving our county in appointed positions on economic panels and boards and with my lifelong involvement in the Christian church, most recently as youth group leader. My track record of civic involvement in Santa Rosa County sets me far apart from the competition for your vote. Our district has multiple economic sectors: from agricultural (livestock, crops), to trades (carpentry, plumbing etc.) and tourism, to high-skill jobs in military, healthcare and technology. We need to strengthen what students learn in the classroom, (math, reading, science, and history) while fostering partnerships in these areas with opportunities for hands-on learning. Simultaneously, we must increase vocational career opportunities for our students. It’s important that we provide a framework for all students’ learning abilities and those that may have different needs. As your school board member I will be accessible, and have daily contact with teachers, administrators (locally and in Tallahassee) parents and students to make certain our educational needs are met. I will focus my actions as your school board member on these areas:
Vote Carol Boston, let my actions speak for you. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve you and to continue serving in the best interests of our children, our county, our nation and God.[5] |
