Ed McLaughlin was the Area 5 representative on the Rapid City Area school board in South Dakota. Appointed to the position in 2013, McLaughlin was unopposed in his bid for election in the general election on June 3, 2014. He did not file for re-election in 2017 and his term ended on July 18, 2017.
Biography
Ed McLaughlin worked as an educator, serving as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. He also served as mayor of Rapid City from 1991 to 1997 before a unsuccessful campaign for the South Dakota House of Representatives in 1998. McLaughlin was a Republican member of the South Dakota House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010, representing District 34. In 2010, he was ineligible to run under South Dakota's term limits. McLaughlin was appointed to the Rapid City Area Board of Education on October 15, 2013, for the resigned Brett Swanson.[1]
