Gary Jones (Louisiana)
Gary Jones is a former member of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education representing District 5. Jones served on the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education from 2015 to 2020.
Smith did not seek re-election in 2020.
Biography
Jones' career in education spans 28 years with the Monroe City school system in a variety of roles ranging from teacher to assistant superintendent. After leaving the Monroe City school system, Jones spent 14 years working as a superintendent for the Claiborne Parish and Rapides Parish school systems. Jones has served as president of the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jones attained the rank of brigadier general before his retirement.[1]

Jones was first elected to the board in October 2015 and took office in January 2016. In January 2017, Jones was elected as the board's president for 2017.[2]
