The seats of District 2 incumbent Velma Barnes, District 4 incumbent Henry Mercer, and District 6 incumbent Gary W. Farmer were up for election. All three incumbents filed for re-election and were unopposed in their bids. Each won additional terms on the board. There was no primary.[1][2]

Funding
The Wilson County Board of Elections did not publish school board candidate campaign finance reports on its website as of November 4, 2016.[3]
School board candidates in North Carolina were required to file campaign finance reports to their county's board of elections unless the candidate:
