My name is Moe Sarama and my child is a student in the San Juan Unified School District. I’m running for the school board because I have a vision for my son and for all children and families in our community to feel safe, heard, and seen in our schools.

Our children deserve to get their education in a safe, calm, and nurturing environment, and our responsibility is to provide that to them. As a school board representative, I will encourage collaboration between parents, teachers, and school staff. I aim to allocate the school district budget towards providing students and staff with more resources and support and renovating the schools with the amenities necessary to guarantee our children’s safety. I moved to this district over 20 years ago because I value the best for my family and children. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. We must give them all the necessary opportunities to succeed so they can one day serve our great community.

  • Encouraging collaboration and building bridges Our children and our communities win when teachers, staff, management and parents work together. Earlier in the pandemic, I watched parents and educators alike rise to an unprecedented challenge. Everyone worked harder than ever to protect the education to which students are entitled. This deep commitment to the success and education of our children must be the foundation of all work taken on by the San Juan Unified School District Board.
  • Providing support and resources As a businessman and a transportation professional, I understand the importance of operating cost, best budget practices, and fiscal responsibility when handling taxpayer money. I will advocate for smarter budgeting, reducing any administrative waste, and putting more resources into classrooms. I will work diligently to ensure our district never runs into any budget crisis or deficits; while ensuring that our teachers and staff get a fair deal so our kids can go to the best schools. Making sure teachers and staff have a high quality of life with robust support is what will make this school district retain the highest quality educators and child care professionals that students deserve.
  • Prioritizing safety and security Students need to be educated in a safe, calm, and nurturing environment and we are obligated to provide it to them – This is simply not negotiable! I will be a strong advocate for providing a safe, stimulating, and enriching space for children to learn; appropriate staff for supervision, and universal support to cope with crisis and loss associated with the pandemic. We must take the lessons learned from the pandemic and make them into actionable policy. I will collaborate with our teachers, staff, administrators, and public safety agencies to ensure we have a safe and secure campus environment for our children- with emphasis on readiness for any threat.
