- 2002-2005: Project planner/manager, SSFM International, Inc.
- 1998-2002: Planner, Planning and program evaluation division, Hawaii State Judiciary
- 1992-1998: Staff planner, State Land Use Commission, Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism[2]

Ascuncion was appointed to the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission by Gov. David Ige (D) on February 19, 2019.[3]
