Jovani is proud to be a native Baltimorean and currently lives in West Baltimore with his wife and two children. A natural problem solver, Jovani currently works as a cyber security engineer where he identifies and fixes complex problems on a regular basis. Jovani routinely volunteers his time to mentoring and encouraging young Black males to pursue careers in science and technology. He is guided by his Christian faith which provides him with the strength and wisdom to actively pursue change for Baltimoreans. As city council president, Jovani hopes to continue his lifelong commitment to service and his vocation of solving problems to help address Baltimore's persistent challenges.
  • Family - I'm the only one willing to be openly honest about the challenges Baltimore face, and that is the destruction of the family.   With the breakdown of the family, men have been forced away from home, and generations are growing up without fathers. All too often times fathers who want to be involved emotionally, pushed away unless they pay and are punished by aggressive child support systems.  We have a child support system that suggests it takes both parents to raise and support a family, yet a culture that suggests it only takes one and circuit judges that ultimately don't care about what's best for the family.
  • Ownership - Baltimore's Tax rate is very prohibitive and a deterrent for ownership. To reduce the tax burden to a declining population, Baltimore City will need to reverse and expand its tax base. There are multiple ways to do this: 1) The city can obtain grant funding to restore dilapidated and abandoned homes and sell them to a family as an affordable housing option. 2) The city can sell off $0-tax vacant lots and properties and allow for private ownership of those properties. The private ownership will allow for a property tax to then be collected on what was not previously a source of revenue for the city.
  • Opportunities - Baltimore is a city full of talented individuals, especially within the arts. As a city, our Arts and Entertainment should be an industry fostered and leveraged as an economy booster. Here we will create public and private partnerships to create opportunities for local talent, increase tourism and attract national talent, and export film and music-similar to what Atlanta has done with the film industry.
Taxes and their effects on lower income communities. In my opinion, this has created two Baltimores. One that is tax privileged and another that is tax punished.
My Dad

He is a person of consistency. My dad always treats people in the home fairly as well as outside the home. He was always the same no matter the group of people around him. My dad is also a hardworker. He never complains about getting the job done, and he instilled those same principles in myself and siblings.
Honesty and unwavering service to the constituents. Period.
Avid Listener. My goal is always to listen to other and understand an opposing point of view before making final decisions.

Problem Solver. Not all problems can be solved in an hour or one day. Despite that, I always look to find a solution for a challenge.
I would like to be remembered as someone that truly fought for the soul of Baltimore. By #BringingFamilyBack and making the family cool again, Baltimore has the perfect opportunity to be the shining city on the hill.
Capri's Italian restaurant. I maintained this job for a year during high school before graduating and moving away.
The Traveller's Gift. This book teaches the essence of personal responsibility and places the reader on a path to achieve greatness. The mix of a fictional story with factual events really creates a scene the reader can identify with. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
More Than Friends by The Sunday Special
Diplomatic, Fairness, and ability to solve problems. The city council president presides over the City Council as well as works as the President of Board of Estimates. It is imperative for the council president to work with individuals with differing views and objectives and to deliver an outcome beneficial to the citizens of Baltimore.
