James Dixon (Massachusetts)
James Dixon was a Republican candidate for the Tenth Middlesex District, Massachusetts House of Representatives in the May 10, 2011 special election. Dixon was running to fill the vacancy created when Peter Koutoujian (D) resigned to take a position as interim Middlesex County Sheriff.
Dixon works as commercial pilot for American Airlines. He got his start in aviation by serving as a pilot in the US Navy. Dixon volunteers for Meals-On-Wheels, Stephen Ministries, and Massachusetts Citizens for Life. He is married to his wife, Laura. They have two children.[1]
Campaign themes
Dixon's 2011 special election campaign site emphasizes several key policy positions and campaign themes:
- "Beacon Hill has been unable to rein in the cost of government, resulting in an exorbitant tax burden on individuals and business, and hampering the efforts of economic recovery. Our over-regulated, over-taxed environment gives businesses little incentive to return to the state. The Legislature time and again has raised taxes as people have been losing their jobs, benefits, and homes, while doing little to cut costs. I support the elimination of pensions for all elected officials, a freeze on all government pay and benefits, a complete audit of government spending, and a review of all government agencies and programs to determine necessity and proper budget and manning requirements.
- "The other issue is the concentration of power and the waning ability of the people to control government. The Speaker of the House and the Senate President have amassed significant power under the current make-up on Beacon Hill. The Legislature, on numerous occasions, has disregarded the will of the people, thwarting citizen petitions or dismissing them outright. The practice of Informal Sessions is a mockery of democracy. The state has taken away from local municipalities the ability to manage their own budgets, schools, development, etc. I am for more local control and less micromanagement from the state. I would like to see more cooperation between government and civic organizations, businesses, and individuals in solving our problems, instead of the total reliance on government."

Dixon was defeated by John Lawn (D) in the May 10 special election.[2][3]
2010
Dixon ran for election to the Tenth Middlesex seat in 2010. He had no primary opposition. He was defeated by Peter Koutoujian (D) in the general election on November 2, 2010.
