High quality education is a passion of mine. I come from a family of educators. My father was a middle-school math teacher in South Korea, my wife taught English as a Second Language at West Valley College, and my mother-in-law and father-in-law are both retired California public school teachers. I also co-founded and run a non-profit foundation that gives college scholarships to graduates of my East Bay public high school.
I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and am a Computer Architect and Distinguished Engineer.
- Top-quality classroom instruction: We need to hire and retain top talent to teach our children, and provide the best possible environment for effective learning.
- Accessible mental health resources: We need to normalize the discussion of mental health, and provide resources to help kids, whether they are in crisis or experiencing low-levels of anxiety and depression.
- Fiscal accountability: The district manages a $140M budget, a $5M parcel tax, and a $275M facilities bond. The public deserves strong fiscal stewardship.
Addressing student mental health is another of my top priorities. I believe the first step is to address school climate, and we must normalize discussions of mental health and social/emotional wellness. The board must then follow through by prioritizing student mental health resources in the budget.
