I am an attorney and criminal justice reform advocate. I'm running for school board because I want to continue the progress of LBUSD and help ensure equity and opportunity for all students. I had the opportunity to study at UCLA and Harvard Law School because of public school teachers that believed in me and because my mother, an educator in Long Beach for 38 years, was an advocate for me. All students deserve a high-quality education, and I will be an advocate for them.

I am Senior Legal Counsel for The Justice Collaborative, where I am devoted to reforming the criminal justice system and building healthier and safer communities. Prior to returning to Long Beach, I served as an Assistant United States Attorney in President Obama's Department of Justice. After Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, I recruited volunteers, raised money, and organized efforts to provide food and supplies to orphanages and shelters on the island. I am proficient in Spanish. I live in the Wrigley neighborhood in Long Beach and I volunteer at Cabrillo High School and for Camp Agape. I believe in public service and I look forward to serving students in Long Beach.

  • Safety: Ensure student and teacher security so our community's children can learn and grow in safe schools.
  • Progress: Continue our gains in eliminating the gap in graduation rates and college enrollment through transparency, accountability and school/parent communication.
  • Innovation: Promote career education and work-based learning and increase business ownership training, paid internships, and local business partnerships.
I am personally passionate about increasing access to quality education and ending mass incarceration. Every day, I support communities who are advocating for alternatives to incarceration by providing legal and policy expertise. I also advise elected officials on criminal justice reform strategies and I have supported advocacy campaigns for juvenile justice and increased education funding.
