Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Abby Baron is a child molestation prosecutor for the LA County District Attorney’s Office who advocates for the most vulnerable in our society. In her 14-year career, she has handled cases involving homicide, the sexual abuse of children, rape, family violence, elder abuse, and stalking. Abby volunteers her time in community service by teaching 5th Graders about civil rights and the justice system, helping cancer patients and their families, and assisting non-profit organizations in providing counseling and resources to those in need. She has worked in both the adult and juvenile courts.

Ms. Baron has been recognized by her peers, supervisors, and the media for her skill, empathy, advocacy, and public service. She has evaluated and handled complex cases, and been recognized by defense attorneys and prosecutors alike for always seeking a just result. Ms. Baron’s commitment to the people of Los Angeles County – as well as her strong principles of justice and advocacy – fueled her decision to run for office. As a Superior Court Judge in Los Angeles County, Ms. Baron will continue to represent people fairly, ethically and with compassion. She is an expert in criminal law and has also worked in civil litigation, insurance law and international law.

She is rated “Well Qualified” by the Los Angeles County Bar Association and is endorsed by The LA Times as well as over 80 judges.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about ensuring the law is applied fairly and everyone who appears in court is heard and respected. It is a privilege to serve the people of Los Angeles County and as a judge I will apply the law justly and with compassion in each individualized circumstance.

Do you believe that empathy is an important quality for a judge?

Empathy is an important quality for a judge. The ability to connect with people of all backgrounds and experiences is vital because the spectrum of experiences within LA County is varied and informs the appropriate decision under the law in each case. I am a candidate who has shown empathy in each case I handled and I have earned a professional reputation as someone who is always willing to listen and consider the circumstances surrounding what ultimately brought the parties to court.

Have you ever been rated by a Bar Association? If so, what was the rating?

I have been rated “Well Qualified” by the Los Angeles County Bar Association and am the only candidate in my race to receive this rating. The rating found I “possess the professional ability, experience, competence, integrity and temperament indicative of superior fitness to perform the judicial function with a high degree of skill and effectiveness.”
