General: She defeated James T. Redwine in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 58.5 percent of the vote.

Lape received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and her J.D. from the Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1991.[4][5]
