Bellew ran in the 2012 election for North Dakota Senate District 38. Bellew and fellow incumbent Dan Ruby ran unopposed in the Republican primary on June 12. They defeated Robert E. Kibler and Mike Rose in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2]
