Pennsylvania Independent is a project of the Commonwealth Foundation of Pennsylvania. As a nonpartisan, public interest journalism project, its goal is to promote open, transparent, and accountable state government. It reports activities of state agencies, bureaucracies, and politicians in Pennsylvania.

The site features daily news stories and deep investigation journalism of state activity and how lawmakers are spending tax dollars.

It is funded through voluntary contributions to the Commonwealth Foundation. It does not seek nor accept taxpayer grants or public subsidies and it does not engage in contract work, fee for service, or quid pro quo contributions.
