7 semi-finalists announced in search for new Indiana Supreme Court justice

Indianapolis, Indiana: On February 9th the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission announced the seven semi-finalists still in the running to fill retiring Chief justice Randall Shepard's seat on the Indiana Supreme Court.[1][2][3] Fifteen applicants initially sought to fill the seat; of those, seven were women and eight were men. Six of the initial applicants were judges, while the rest were attorneys.[4] Of the semi-finalists four are men, three are women, four are judges, and three are attorneys. The applicants who have made it through to the semi-finalist round are:
- Robert R. Altice Jr., Marion County Superior Court, Criminal Division 2
- Cale Bradford, Indiana Court of Appeals
- Maria Granger, Floyd County Superior Court 3
- Mark S. Massa, attorney of Indianapolis
- Robyn L. Moberly, Marion County Superior Court, Civil Division 5
- Steven R. Schultz, attorney of Columbus
- Jane A. Seigel, attorney of Indianapolis[1]
The applicants who did not proceed in the process are judges Cynthia Ayers and Michael N. Pagano and attorneys Patricia C. McMath of Indianapolis, Karl L. Mulvaney of Indianapolis, Rory O’Bryan of Indianapolis, Mary K. Reeder of Indianapolis, Les C. Shively of Evansville, and Rebecca A. Trent of West Lafayette.[4][5]
Interviews to determine three finalists will be held on February 22nd. These three finalists will then be reviewed by Governor Mitch Daniels, who will make the final decision.
