I'm a working-class shipfitter living in Providence, Rhode Island. I was raised by my single mother, Betty, and my grandmother, Ruth. We got by on mom's wages as a grocery clerk (where she still works today, unable to retire), and on the bonds of family and community. My grandmother had a knack for bringing us all together; she was a second mother to me. She made me who I am, and instilled me with a sense of civic pride.

My Grampy Robert died of asbestosis when I was only a year old, after years of building Navy ships. I think of him daily – of all of the time that was stolen from him by manufacturers who knew the dangers of asbestos but used it anyway. To them, the human cost was worthwhile.

I've worked manual jobs my entire life – I know what it is to have my labor exploited, to have my wages stolen, to have my body broken. I'm running because I want to build a Rhode Island for the people – not for billionaires, not for corporations, and not for the Ol' Boys' Club up at the state house. We deserve a government that serves us.
  • I believe that healthcare is a human right. As a Type 1 Diabetic, I can't count the number of times that I've had to choose between my insulin and the rest of my bills. No one should have their life choices dictated by United Healthcare. Rhode Island deserves a Medicare for All system. We're a small state, and that means we can lead the nation. We can build a system where no one puts off a visit to the doctor because they're worried about the bills, where care is accessible for all, and where medical decisions are between doctor and patient.
  • I want us to recognize education as the vital infrastructure that it is. Our schools are not warehouses for producing standardized test scores; they are for nurturing fully-realized human beings. We need to fully fund our public schools, pre-k through college. We need to feed every child while they're at school, and to bridge the gap between schools and the communities in which they reside.
  • The world right now is scary. Times are tough. But nothing is going to make this better unless we sit down and do the work. I'm prepared to do that work; I hope you'll join me.
I care about the issues that have an impact on the working class – affordable housing (I want to build 10,000 new, affordable housing units throughout the state), minimum wage (I want to raise the minimum wage to at least $19/hour), and healthcare (I want to bring Medicare for All to Rhode Island, and to ensure that abortion is recognized as a vital medical procedure).

Beyond making sure that everyone has a roof over their head, their bills paid and their health needs met, I want to build a state that is accessible to everyone – streets built for people, protected bike lanes, frequent and reliable public transit. Reducing the role of cars in our city will not only help us with our climate goals, but will create rich, vibrant, close-knit communities.
