Ballotpedia's Tuesday Count adds one certified measure for 2010
April 20, 2010
By Bailey Ludlam
There's only about two weeks before the second 2010 election takes place; this time in Ohio where two measures will appear on the ballot. Until then, signatures are frantically being collected in numerous states and ballots are beginning to take shape. This week, Ballotpedia's Tuesday Count added one certified measure to it's list; raising the total to 98 certified measures.
On April 19 the proposed Alaska Legislature Increase Amendment received the required 2/3rds support of the Alaska Legislature placing it on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot. If approved by voters, the measure would add four more representatives and two more senators to the Alaska Legislature, which currently stands at 60. According to reports, the measure was introduced in order to help alleviate the difficulty of redistricting.
Voting for the Arizona special election, May 18, begins this week. The deadline for registering to vote for that particular election passed earlier this week on April 18. On the ballot is one measure - Proposition 100, also known as the "sales tax increase" proposal. Arguments for both the support and opposition, as well as polls, media endorsements and other relevant facts for the "hotly debated" and "highly publicized" measure can be found here.
The Utah ballot for 2010 is slowly coming together as signatures continue to be counted. The petition drive deadline ended last week. Of the five filed initiatives, two have already been dismissed for the 2010 ballot: the Utah Redistricting Commission Initiative and the Utah Ethics Commission Initiative. Both failed to collect at least 94,552 signatures, however, according to reports might attempt qualifying the initiatives for the 2012 ballot.
