COLUMBUS,: Ohio: There are 116 total legislative seats with 2012 elections in Ohio, where polling places are open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM Eastern Time (however, if voters are in line at the time of the poll closing at 7:30 PM they will be given the right to vote).
Unlike the "purple" nature that Ohio has a reputation for in Presidential elections, the state legislature is more one sided, with Republicans holding solid majorities in both chambers.
Of the 116 incumbents up for election in 2012, 102 (87.9%) of them are running for re-election. A total of 100 of 116 (86.2%) districts will see more than one major party candidate in the general election.
Here are a few races to watch:
Senate
- District 30: Recent appointee Lou Gentile (D) will try to win his seat for a full term against Laura D. Groux (R).
House
- District 6: Democrat Anthony Fossaceca will try to unseat freshman Republican Marlene Anielski.
- District 7: In what is expected to be a very close race, Matt Patten (D) will face incumbent Mike Dovilla.
