This week's question was, As of July 2023, Republicans make up what percentage of all state legislators?

You answered: 62%.
The correct answer was 55%.

As of July 2023, Republicans represented 55% of all state legislative seats in the country to Democrats' 44%. That equals 4,058 and 3,276 seats, respectively. Minor party or independent legislators represent 26 seats (0.4%), and 26 seats were vacant.

Republicans have made up a majority of state legislators since 2011. At 12 years, this is currently the longest span of Republican state legislative control in more than a century. Democrats' longest span with the majority lasted 48 years from 1955 to 2003.
