This week's question was, How many justices serve on state supreme courts nationwide?

You answered: 108.
The correct answer is 344.

There are 344 state supreme court justices nationwide. Each state's supreme court is made up of either five, seven, or nine justices. A majority of states—28—have seven supreme court justices. Sixteen have five and four—Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Washington—have nine.

The two states with multiple courts of last resort—Oklahoma and Texas—have 14 and 18 justices, respectively. Oklahoma has one court of last resort with five justices and one with nine. Both of Texas' courts of last resort have nine justices.

The map below shows the U.S. color-coded by the number of supreme court justices in each state.
