|Over the past decade, she has made a name for herself in the business world as a music tour marketing & special events manager for Capitol Records, served as an administrative clerk for the City of Thousand Oaks Cultural Affairs Department, and as a Recreation Specialist of Outdoor Education & Camps for Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District. In 2020, Bev was elected as a Director for the Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park Board.
She and her husband Cory, a Camarillo native whose great-grandfather was the first Fire Chief in the Firehouse in Old Town Camarillo, knew that Camarillo would be the home for their growing family. Bev is a mother to 2 children, 3 rescue pups, and a guinea pig named Moo Moo. Cory and Bev just celebrated their 10-year anniversary. As a family, their core memories are rooted in PVRPD parks, programs, classes and events.- COMMUNITY: Community comes first. I will ensure that our parks are a welcoming and safe space. Making headway on the Senior Center will continue to be a priority of mine.
- COLLABORATION: We are so much better working together. I will build upon partnerships across organizations and businesses to better meet your needs.
- CONNECTION: Connecting with each person in the District is integral to developing a shared vision. I will work on making it easier to hear from constituents regarding their concerns while also being able to relay progress on current projects available online and posted around each pertinent facility.
- Increasing accessibility to our playgrounds and facilities
- Preserving and protecting our open space
- Meeting the needs of the community
- Enacting fiscally responsible and sustainable decisions to provide a stable foundation for current and future generations
My first job upon graduating from UC Berkeley was as a music contract assistant for Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in Los Angeles. I worked there for 2 years before becoming a Tour Marketing & Special Events Manager at Capitol Records.
However, what jumps to mind is Phoebe Buffay (Friends) for her generosity and complete selflessness, quirkiness, authentic friendship, and resilience.
From the CSDA.net website:
The California Special District Association (CSDA) views Special Districts as "The most local of local government."
Paraphrased:
"Special districts are local governments created by the people of a community to deliver specialized services essential to their health, safety, economy and well-being...A community forms a special district... to provide specialized services the local city or county do not provide.
[PVRPD] operates on a small share of property taxes. [The District] does not receive any shares of sales taxes..."
Many will ask, "Why is it recreation & parks and not parks & recreation?" "Recreation & Parks" is a distinction that the district is a Special District. "Parks & Recreation" (much like the beloved show) means that it is a department through the city.
