C. Richard "Dickie" Cranwell works as a senior partner at the Virginia law firm Cranwell & Moore P.L.C. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates for 29 years beginning in 1972. He was the chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia from 2005 to 2010.
Career
Cranwell earned a B.S. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1965 and a J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1968.[1]

Virginia politics
Cranwell served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1972 to 2001. During his legislative career, he served as Majority Leader from September 19, 1991 to January 12, 2000. After that, he served as Minority Leader until he retired in 2001. Cranwell won the "Who's Who in Politics in the South" award and the "Distinguished Legislators of America" award while working in the Virginia legislature.[2]
He became chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia on June 18 2005, where he served until the end of 2010.[3]
