Two seats on the school board for Cherry Creek School District were up for general election on November 5, 2013. Randy Perlis defeated Brian Arnold to win the District D seat while Karen Fisher ran unopposed and won the District E seat.

Cherry Creek School District is located in Arapahoe County, Colorado. The county seat of Arapahoe County is Littleton, Colorado. According to the 2010 US Census, Arapahoe County is home to 595,546 residents.[1]
Demographics
Arapahoe County outperformed the rest of Colorado in terms of its average household income, poverty rate and higher education achievement in 2011. The median household income in Arapahoe County was $59,937 compared to $57,685 for the state of Colorado. The poverty rate in Arapahoe County was 11.9% compared to 12.5% for the entire state. The U.S. Census also found that 38.3% of Arapahoe County residents aged 25 years and older attained a bachelor's degree compared to 36.3% in Colorado as a whole.[1]

Method of board member selection
The Cherry Creek School Board consists of five members, all of whom are elected at-large by the district as a whole, but to different geographic district seats for four-year terms. There was no primary election and the general election was held on November 5, 2013. Two seats were on the ballot in 2013, and three seats were on the ballot in 2015.[3]
Individuals interested in running for the board began circulating nominating petitions on August 7, 2013. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the 2013 general election was August 30, and the filing deadline to serve as a write-in candidate was September 3.[4]

Endorsements
Randy Perlis received endorsements for his campaign from the Cherry Creek Education Association and the Aurora Sentinel.[5][6] Karen Fisher received several endorsements for her campaign from local leaders, including Parents' Council President Mari Anne Imhoff, former Colorado State Senator Nancy Spence and former district superintendent Dr. Monte Moses.[7]

2011Due to a lack of opposition, Cherry Creek School District administrators canceled the 2011 school board elections. Two incumbents ran unopposed to retain their seats, and one newcomer ran unopposed for the sole vacant seat.[9] |
What was at stake?
Two seats on the board were at stake in this election. District D incumbent Randy Perlis faced a challenge from Brian Arnold, and newcomer Karen Fisher ran unopposed for the seat left vacant by board president Jennifer Churchfield. Churchfield was ineligible to run for another term because of Amendment 17 to the Colorado Constitution, which states that no "elected official of any...school district....shall serve more than two consecutive terms in office."[3]

Additional elections on the ballot
This election shared the ballot with three statewide measures. Voters cast ballots on measures dealing with excise taxes and sales taxes on marijuana sales in Colorado. They also voted on Amendment 66, which is an initiated constitutional amendment to raise the state's income tax in order to increase state funding for public school districts.
