Three seats on the Cherry Hill Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014. At-large incumbents Seth Klukoff, Eric Goodwin and Carol Matlack were up for re-election, but Klukoff did not file to run. Newcomer Lisa Saidel joined the incumbents in the unopposed general election.[1] All three were elected without opposition. This was the second consecutive unopposed election for the Cherry Hill Board of Education.

Cherry Hill Public Schools is located in Camden County, New Jersey. The county seat of Camden County is Camden. In 2013, Camden County was home to approximately 512,854 residents according to estimates by the United States Census Bureau.[2] In 2011-2012 school year, Cherry Hill Public Schools was the 12th-largest school district by enrollment in New Jersey and served 11,248 students.

Demographics

Camden County underperformed in comparison to the rest of New Jersey in terms of education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 28.7 percent of Camden County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 35.4 percent for New Jersey as a whole. The median household income for Camden County was $62,320, compared to the state average of $71,637. The unemployment rate in the county was 12.1 percent while it was 9.9 percent statewide.[2]

Voter and candidate information

The Cherry Hill Board of Education consists of nine nonpartisan members who are elected at-large to three-year terms. Elections are staggered with three seats being up for election each year. Candidates for the Board of Education must be 18 years old and have resided within the district for at least one year prior to their election or appointment. There are no term limits.[4]

Candidates were required to submit nominating petitions with 10 signatures to the county clerk by the filing deadline on July 28, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. Voters had to register by October 14, 2014, to vote in the election.[5][6]
