North Carolina: In early November, Chief Judge John C. Martin was elected to the Council of Chief Judges. This national organization is composed of leaders from the state intermediate appellate courts. Together, the group focuses on improving education, procedures, rules and administration for the state courts. Martin was elected Secretary-Treasurer for the 2011-2012 term.[1]
Chief Judge Martin has served on the North Carolina Court of Appeals for a total of twenty-two years. His service on the court began in 1985, though he left three years later to return to private practice. Martin returned to the court in 1993 and became its chief judge in 2004.[2]
The incoming president for the Council of Chief Judges is Sherry Radack, of the Texas Court of Appeals.[1]
