I am a healthcare professional with 20 years of experience caring for those in need. Through my years of caring for people, either at the bedside of patients or my years as a Houston Police Dept call taker, my love for caring for others has been my life. Therefore, that same compassionate and caring behavior will be what I will bring to district 5. One of the things I will do is be there accessible and available. I know the importance of being a great listener and being accountable at all times. I work for the citizens, thereby your concerns will be my concerns as well. As a frontline worker during the pandemic, it has developed an extreme sense of compassion and empathy for all.
  • I'm committed to listening to your concerns, and will be your advocate to Council.
  • Im experience in caring for the needs of people, your voice is my voice.
  • Character with accountability, makes me equipped to be your next Councilwoman.
I am personally passionate about the safety and well-being of all. We are to love our neighbors with respect and kindness. The increase in violence in district 5 has me highly concerned. I choose S. Garland as my home, because of the well-matured homes and the feel of the neighborhood. I'm sure many people still reside here, after 20 or more years for that same reason. Although I have only been a resident here for nearly 2 years, I feel, that my positive attitude and my friendly demeanor will be a great representation of district 5 and all its citizens.
I would like to leave the legacy of being a woman with determination and righteousness. I have always gone after my dreams and I treat people with love and respect. I believe my love for Christ helps me to make all my dreams and aspirations come true. I am simply being the woman I was created to be.
The first historical event I could remember was the 911 attack on the United States. I was 24 years and pregnant with my son. I will never forget that moment in history, not only for the lives lost but for me carrying a life of my own for the first time. At that time I was employed with the Houston Police Dept. This was the most difficult time in my career. The sound of fear in the voices over the phone was unspeakable. After 20 years, I still can remember how scared and unsure of our own lives I was. That moment in history will be with me every Sept. 11 for the remainder of my life.
A city is not run by one person, and not all wants will be met. It takes 5 votes for anything to pass in council that is brought up to council. Therefore, people must understand that some things may not happen. However, we work for the good of all of the citizens.
No, I do not believe it's beneficial for the holder of this office need to have previous experience in government or politics. I believe a person without previous experience brings a fresh set of eyes to the Council. It allows for the person to continue to fight for the people and the community they love. You do need experience for that. Many people bring their own set of experiences that is just as important as having government or experience in politics.
The skills needed that will be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess is a people person. City Council members represent the needs and concerns of the people. In order for those needs and concerns to be met, you must talk to the people, then listen to the people, finally work with the council to have those needs met.
