Daniel A. Kuehnert is a judge for Judicial District 25A of the North Carolina 5th Superior Court Division. He assumed office on January 1, 2019.

Kuehnert was initially a superior court judge for the 25A Judicial District of the Seventh Division of the Superior Court.[1] He was elected to the court on November 4, 2014, to a term commencing on January 1, 2015.
In 2018, the North Carolina General Assembly passed House Bill 717, revising the state superior court, district court, and prosecutorial districts. Kuehnert's seat on the Seventh Division was absorbed into the Fifth Division.
The North Carolina Superior Courts are split into five divisions and 48 districts. Superior court judges rotate among the districts within their division every six months.[2] However, superior court judges are elected by voters in their district and must reside in the district in which they are elected.[3]

Kuehnert ran for election to the 25A Judicial District of the Seventh Division of the Superior Court.
General: He defeated incumbent Judge C. Thomas Edwards in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 54.4 percent of the vote.[1]
Judicial performance evaluation
In July 2014, the North Carolina Bar Association released the results of a survey in which it asked lawyers to rate the judicial candidates for the trial courts. The candidates were rated from one to five on five different criteria as well as on their overall performance.[4]

Education
Kuehnert received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1977 and his J.D. degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1982.[5]
Career
Before his election to the Seventh Division of the Superior Court, Kuehnert was a partner at the law firm of Kuehnert & Jones PLLC. He also previously served as the town attorney for the Town of Glen Alpine and as an attorney for Burke County and the Town of Rutherford College in North Carolina. Prior to graduating from law school, Kuehnert served as a deputy sheriff.[5]
