McKee ran in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 51. McKee and Keen A. Umbehr were defeated by Ron Highland in the Republican primary on August 7, 2012. Richard Pikul defeated Scott Briggs in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[1]
