An Eugene City Monthly Residence Fee measure was defeated on the May 21, 2013, election ballot in Lane County, which is in Oregon.
If approved, this measure would have authorized the City of Eugene to impose a monthly residence fee of no more than $10 per month in order to fund public safety, fire, police, homeless and recreation services.[1]

Summary:

If approved, this measure would authorize a monthly fee to maintain: - public safety services, such as a fire company fire engine and nine firefighters/paramedics), police detectives, mobile mental health crisis team (CAHOOTS) and teen court. The measure would raise funds by authorizing City Council to impose a monthly fee of no more than $10/month for residences and $30/month for businesses. The actual fee would be set by Council. The measure would require Council to establish a program for assistance to low income individuals who would be subject to the fee. An oversight committee would annually determine whether revenues generated by the fee were spent for authorized purposes. Council would be required to review the fee after five years to decide if it should be revised or terminated.[1][2] |
