- Job Growth: Jobs and wage growth in the United States are stagnant. We have 12 million fewer jobs than before the 1980 recession. Five million manufacturing jobs have been lost since 2000. Between 2001 and 2013 our trade deficit with China has cost the United State 3.2 million jobs. Three-fourths of those jobs were in manufacturing. I favor a Fair Tax and retiring the IRS as we know it.
- Family: The strength of America is the family. No amount of government programs can replace the central role the family must play in the strength and stability of our American society. Everything we do and are emerges from our family upbringing. Strong families make strong citizens. By contrast, broken families weaken our social fabric, handicap children and grow needy adults who often become net takers rather than net givers to society. The American Republic was specifically established whereby the priorities of the majority are implemented without diminishing the rights of minorities. We don’t have this dynamic in balance currently. I support family-friendly legislation across the board.
- Healthcare: Healthcare costs represent 1/6th of our nation’s economy (2010). On March 3, 2010, a Democrat majority Congress passed the “Affordable Care Act” on strict party lines—without a single Republican vote. This act is also known as Obamacare. As a physician who knows something about this subject, I favor immediate repeal of Obamacare.
- Jobs: On paper the unemployment rate is approximately 5%, but that is not the true picture. Many who would otherwise be working have dropped out and are no longer counted. If they were, the jobless rate would be more like 10-11%. I favor limited regulation and reduction if not elimination of corporate income tax (in favor of Fair Tax).
- National Debt: The most pressing issue facing our nation today is the national debt. It currently stands at $19 trillion. This has increased from $10 trillion in 2009 when Obama took office.
