Jackson E. Cox

Jackson E. Cox is a state court judge for the Burke County State Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the court by Governor Nathan Deal on November 18, 2014, to fill the vacancy created by the death of Judge Jerry Daniel. Cox ran for an won a full term on the court in the nonpartisan general election on May 24, 2016.[1]
Biography
Cox received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College and his J.D. degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. Before his appointment to the court, Cox served as the solicitor-general for Burke County. He also previously maintained his own private law practice in Waynesboro, Georgia.[1]
Elections
2016
Georgia held elections for local judicial offices—some of which are partisan, others of which are nonpartisan—in 2016. On May 24, 2016, regions across the state held primaries for the partisan races and general elections for the nonpartisan races. Runoff races for both the partisan primaries and the nonpartisan general elections were held on July 26, 2016. The general election for partisan races took place on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was March 11, 2016.[2]

Judges of the Georgia State Courts are elected to four-year terms.[3] The elections for this court are nonpartisan, contested elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be a state resident for at least three years, a county resident, admitted to practice law for at least seven years, and at least 25 years of age.[4]
