Jeanne Stempien was a judge for the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County, Michigan. She served as a judge for the court from January 1993 until October 2013.[1][2]

Education

Stempien received her B.A. degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1967 and her J.D. degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1980. Prior to attending law school, she worked as a public school teacher in Taylor, Michigan, from 1967 to 1970 and then at various other jobs until 1980.[1][3]

Career

Stempien began her career in 1980 as a trial attorney for the law firm of Joselyn, Rowe, Jamieson, Grinnan, P.C. She then worked as a trial attorney for Stempien and Stempien, P.C. from 1983 until she joined the 3rd Circuit Court in 1993. During this time, she also served as a special assistant attorney general for condemnation cases and cases involving the Michigan Department of Transportation highway design.[1]

Awards and associations

Stempien was elected to the Judicial Tenure Commission commencing January 1, 2004. Her term expired on December 31, 2012. In the past, she was elected the chairperson of the Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees. She also served as a facilitator for the National Judicial College and was a member of the Inns of Court (an advocacy program for law students).[3]

Stempien was re-elected to the 3rd Circuit Court in the general election on November 2, 2010, along with 18 other judges.[4]
