The Judicial Update

January 9, 2014

Delaware: On January 8, 2014, Gov. Jack Markell nominated Chancellor Leo E. Strine, Jr. to the position of Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court. If confirmed by the Delaware Senate, he will replace retired Chief Justice Myron Steele as the state's highest-ranking judicial officer.[1]

Strine has served on the Delaware Court of Chancery since 1998 and has been the Chancellor of that court since 2011. In response to the nomination, he stated:

For over 21 years, I have committed my professional life to serving the people of Delaware. If the Senate confirms me to this important position, I will do everything I can to repay the confidence they and the Governor will have entrusted in me by working cooperatively with my colleagues to preserve Delaware’s tradition of judicial excellence and address the new challenges and opportunities to our state resulting from a rapidly globalizing economy.[1][2]
