Linda F. Coats is a judge on the Madison County District Court in Alabama. She was elected to the court in 2012 and her term expires in 2018.

Education

Coats received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and her J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law.[1]

Career

Coats has spent the majority of her career in private practice. In 1999, she was appointed a Special District Judge.[1]

2012 election

Coats defeated Christopher M. Messervy and Donald N. Rizzardi in the Republican primary on March 13, winning 48.41% of the vote. Since no candidate won 50% of the vote, the race went to a runoff on April 24. She was defeated by Messervy in the runoff, receiving 38.6%[2][3]

Coats was selected to run for the seat in the general election by the Republican Party, after her former opponent, Christopher Messervy, was disqualified. Coats was elected to the court after running unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4] [5]
