The Louisiana Property Tax Freeze Amendment, also known as Amendment 1, was on the ballot in Louisiana on October 1, 1988, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was defeated. This measure proposed that homes in strategy areas that are improved for habitation by low-income families should be assessed for property taxes at a rate consistent with the pre-improvement assessment. This assessment would be frozen for five years.[1]
