|- I believe in education. Even when I was living abroad in Germany 1990-2000, I continued my education via Distance Learning. One of my professors had instilled in me the principle, “Don’t stop learning until you die.” Believing in life-long education, I reached my goal of Doctor of Philosophy in 2011. I share the concerns of many of our residents that too many students in our School District did not meet academic standards. According to the Report Card from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for Washington, only 54.5% of students met standards in English Language Arts, 51.67% met math standards (Spring 2023), and 60.8% met Math standards.
- I believe parents are the primary stakeholders in their child’s education. But often, parents not only feel out of the loop, they are out of the loop, because of a policy restricting their access to the School Board. through the restricting policy of addressing the School Board. This policy prevents valuable input from the community by limiting public comment to agenda items only. This limits discussion, muzzles dialog and, frankly, violates the Constitution and the Open Public Meetings Act of 2022. This is bad policy. Parents have a right to an avenue to express their concerns, criticisms and compliments, and that will only happen with the freedom to address the School Board.
- I believe in the rule of law. The Legislative Brach of our state spelled out valuable guidelines on how schools in this state are to operate, declaring their desired outcomes. Medical Lake Schools District must uphold the law as the Legislative Brach has determined. This is what the laws of Washington State require of our schools: “to endeavor to impress on the minds of their pupils the principles of morality, truth, justice, temperance, humanity and patriotism; to teach them to avoid idleness, profanity and falsehood; to instruct them in the principles of free government, and to train them up to the true comprehension of the rights, duty and dignity of American citizenship.” RCW 28A.405.030

Hudson completed a candidate survey for VoteWA. In it, he said, “We must focus more on academics… Information is power, and parents and the District must have it to make informed decisions for children.”
