Matt Goetten was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 13th Congressional District of Illinois. Goetten was defeated by David Gill in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012.[1]

Biography

Goetten was raised in Carrollton in Greene County, Illinois.[2] He attended St. John’s Elementary and Carrollton High School.[2] He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology. He later earned his Master’s Degree in labor relations.[2] Goetten received his law degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.[2]

    • 2005-2009 Officer Commission, Judge Advocate General with the Illinois Army National Guard[2]
    • 2009: Deployed to Afghanistan[2]
    • Currently, Goetten is serving in the Illinois Air National Guard[2]
  • 2004: Elected Greene County State’s Attorney[2]

Goetten ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Illinois' 13th District. Goetten was defeated in the March 20 Democratic primary by David Gill.[3][4]

Frank Metzger and candidate Michael Firsching were defeated by incumbent Timothy Johnson in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012.[1] The Democratic primary between candidates David Gill and Goetten was incredibly close, and in the end Gill narrowly beat out Goetten.[1]
