Melissa Thrush is a former District 5 member on the Okaloosa County School Board in Florida. She was first elected to the office in the August 24, 2010, general election. She did not seek re-election in 2018.

Thrush received all of her primary and secondary education in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She attended Elliott Point Elementary, Meigs Jr. High and Choctawhatchee High, where she graduated in 1986. She received both a bachelor's of science in electrical engineering in 1990 and a master's of integrated manufacturing systems engineering in 1993 from North Carolina State University.[1]

Her family includes her husband, Christopher Reid, and their four children.[1]

The Okaloosa County general election on August 26, 2014, featured three seats up for election. Cindy Frakes lost her bid for re-election in District 1 to challenger Lamar White. In the District 5 race, incumbent Melissa Thrush defeated challenger David E. Scholl. The District 3 race advanced to the runoff election, which was held on November 4, 2014, as no candidate received 50 percent of the vote. Incumbent Rodney Walker and challenger Joseph Slusser were the top two vote-getters, defeating Christoffer Hyden.

As a parent of four children enrolled in local public schools and an engineer, I will continue to bring a fresh perspective to the school board. I recognize the need to provide a quality education to all of our children not just my own.
