Michael Gerard Graffeo was a civil division judge of Circuit 10 in Jefferson County, Alabama from 2007 to 2018.[1] He was elected to this position in November of 2006 and took office on January 16, 2007.[2] He did not run for re-election in 2018.

Education

Judge Graffeo received his B.A. degree (in political science and sociology) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1976. He then earned his J.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.[2]

Career

Judge Graffeo was admitted to the practice of law on September 28, 1979.[3] He began his career as a law clerk for two U.S. Magistrates. He then worked as a city lobbyist and administrative assistant to the mayor of Birmingham from 1980 to 1983. From 1983 until he became a circuit judge in 2007, he practiced law in Birmingham. During this time, he worked for the firms McMillan & Spratling (’83-’85) and Najjar Denaburg, P.C. (’87-’95). He was a solo, general practitioner from 1986 to 1987 and from 1995 to 2007. He also served on the Birmingham City Council from 1987 to 1989.[2]

2012 election

Graffeo was re-elected after running unopposed in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4][5][6]
