Weisser unsuccessfully ran for election to the same seat in 2012.
Biography
Weisser worked as a plumber and homeless shelter manager prior to returning to college to earn his M.A. from the University of Illinois at Springfield. He also received his M.Ed. from Northern Arizona University. He has been a political activist with PDA, DFA, NORML, Occupy Kingman (Occupy Together), Heartland Peace Center (Springfield, IL), Move On.Org, A.N.S.W.E.R., Amnesty International, Code Pink and Phoenix's End the War Coalition.[3]

Incumbent Paul Gosar (R) defeated Mikel Weisser (D), Robert Hixon (D write-in), and Jeffery Daniels (L write-in) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Gosar defeated Ray Strauss in the Republican primary. The primary elections took place on August 30, 2016.[1][4][5]

Weisser ran in the 2014 election for the U.S. House to represent Arizona's 4th District. He ran unopposed in the primary on August 26, 2014. He was defeated by incumbent Paul Gosar (R) in the general election on November 4, 2014.[6][7]

"I will work for the standard assortment of left side issues: overturn Citizens United, move to amend away corporate personhood; refunding schools and eliminating NCLB, full citizenship rights for LGBT citizens, affordable immigration policies and citizenship drives for immigrants, end marijuana prohibition, restore funding for arts programs, universal health care, universal education to qualified students, progressive taxing, criminal liablities for mortgage abuses or financial sector fraud, end no-bid contracts, protect reproductive rights, reduce government waste & defense contractor spending."[13]
