The New Mexico Salaries for State Legislators Amendment did not appear on the November 8, 2016 ballot in New Mexico as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure would have paid state legislators an annual salary equal to the median household income in New Mexico for the most recent calendar year.[1]

The amendment was proposed by Rep. Terry McMillan (R-37) as House Joint Resolution 3.[2]

According to Article XIX of the New Mexico Constitution, a simple majority is required in the legislature to refer the amendment to the ballot.

The bill was introduced in the New Mexico House of Representatives on January 8, 2016. The legislature failed to refer the measure to the ballot as of the end of the session on February 18, 2016.[2]
