The New Mexico School Board of Regents Nominations Amendment did not appear on the November 8, 2016 ballot in New Mexico as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure would have provided for nominating committees for all appointed and reappointed members of board of regents for state educational institutions.[1]

The amendment was proposed by Rep. Jeff Steinborn (D-35) as House Joint Resolution 4.[2]

According to Article XIX of the New Mexico Constitution, a simple majority is required in the legislature to refer the amendment to the ballot.

The bill was introduced in the New Mexico House of Representatives on January 13, 2016. The legislature failed to refer the measure to the ballot as of the end of the session on February 18, 2016.[2]
