The New Mexico School Elections Amendment did not appear on the November 8, 2016 ballot in New Mexico as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure would have removed a prohibition on holding school elections at the same time as other elections.[1]

The amendment was proposed by Rep. Paul Bandy (R-3) as House Joint Resolution 7.[2]

According to Article XIX of the New Mexico Constitution, a simple majority is required in the legislature to refer the amendment to the ballot.
The bill was introduced in the New Mexico House of Representatives on January 14, 2016. The legislature failed to refer the measure to the ballot as of the end of the session on February 18, 2016.[2]
