Paul D. Lyman was a judge for the Fifth Judicial District in Utah.[1] He also served as a judge for the Sevier County Juvenile Court in the Sixth Judicial District.[2] Lyman was appointed to the juvenile court position in July 2000 by Governor Michael O. Leavitt.[3] Lyman retired from the court on December 31, 2017.[4]

Lyman won a retention election on November 8, 2016.[5]

Biography

Lyman received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1979.[3] He served in the United States Air Force from 1980 to 1985, during which time he attained the rank of captain.[3] Lyman began his legal career in private practice. He served as a part-time deputy Sevier County attorney, Wayne County attorney, and Salina City attorney. Lyman also served as mayor of Richfield from 1994 to 1998.[3]

Utah held retention elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for sitting judges seeking retention was April 15, 2016. Paul D. Lyman was retained in the Utah 6th District Juvenile Court (Lyman Seat) election with 81.46 percent of the vote. [5]
