A ranked-choice voting measure was not on the ballot for San Diego voters in San Diego County, California, on November 3, 2020.
The measure would have established ranked-choice voting to be used for local general elections. The nonpartisan primary would have remained the same, except that it would have advanced four candidates instead of two.[1]

Path to the ballot
More Choice San Diego submitted this measure according to the city's Council Policy 000-21. According to that policy, measures can be submitted for consideration by the city council for referral to the ballot. If approved by a city council committee, the measure is sent to the full city council. If approved by the city council, the measure is sent to the ballot.[2][3]
On June 10, 2020, the Rules Committee voted 3-2 to send the measure to a full council vote. On July 21, 2020, the city council rejected the measure in a 5-4 vote.[4]
