Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for July 6, 2018

July 6, 2018: Nineteen percent (19%) of American workers are currently employed by firms that have been around for less than a decade. That is a substantial decline from 30 years ago when fully 33% of workers were employed by those younger companies.[1]
When you look at the newest startups—those companies under two years old—the story is the same. In 2015, just 4% of workers were employed by such firms. That’s less than half the total from 30 years ago.
This decline of entrepreneurial employment is what the Brookings Institution refers to as one of several “troubling indications that dynamism and competition in the U.S. economy have declined” in recent decades. The group's analysis suggests that these problems are related to “both growing market concentration and the reduced rate of entry by firms.”
