November 15, 2017: Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Americans believe that freedom of speech ensures that the truth will eventually win out. According to a study by the Cato Institute, that figure includes 31% who strongly agree with that statement and 36% who somewhat agree.[1]
Attitudes are similar across racial and partisan lines.
On a related topic, 66% say that "colleges and universities aren’t doing enough to teach young Americans today about the value of free speech.”
Also, 65% believe colleges should “expose students to all types of viewpoints” rather than prohibiting “offensive speech that is biased against certain groups.”[2]
