January 17, 2020: Election officials representing 19 counties in 5 states have been accused of violating the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and notified that they may ”face a federal lawsuit.”[1]

That law requires states to remove from voting lists anyone who has died, moved, or otherwise become ineligible to vote. However, many counties have not maintained their voter registration files in accordance with the law. Judicial Watch estimates that there are now 378 counties with more registered voters than voting-age residents.[1]

Eleven of the 19 counties facing legal action are in California. The others are in Colorado, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.[1]

“Last year, Los Angeles County settled a lawsuit and agreed to clean up its voter rolls after Judicial Watch revealed that it had 1.6 million more voter registrations on file than the eligible voting population in the county.”[1]
