January 3, 2020: Sean Trende, Senior Elections Analyst for Real Clear Politics, estimates that 7 states could gain seats in Congress following this year’s Census.[1]

Trende projects that Texas will be the big winner, adding 3 more members of Congress. Florida is expected to gain two seats. If the population growth trends continue, five states will add a single representative—North Carolina, Colorado, Arizona, Montana, and Oregon.[1]

On the other side of the coin, Trende expects ten states to lose a representative—Alabama, California, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, and Rhode Island.[1]

These changes will not take effect until after the 2020 elections.
